Teaching

Sandra Marlowe is a vocal educator and performance coach through private sessions, group classes, workshops.  Comprehensive studies include:

Voice – technique, flexibility, & strength; range, resonance & power
Musicianship – music fundamentals, reading music, sight singing
Artistry – personal style, interpretation, arrangements
Performance – stage presence, manners, audience rapport

As singers, we are communicators – of ideas, thoughts, feelings – through sound and song.  Deep commitment, discipline, personal and professional development – along with creative inspiration and exploration – forge us as artists in service to life, bringing intention and truth to our voices, as well as power to the stories we share with others through the arts.

Ms. Marlowe auditions students through an initial consultation.  Acceptance is based largely on a strong desire, focus, and commitment as well as practice discipline, and less on natural ability or level of proficiency.  Her work is to instruct, guide, correct, encourage, support – a student’s work is to learn, practice, develop, aspire, excel.  The results are knowledge of the voice, good habits in using it, and steady progress towards goals. Marlowe’s students have been accepted to conservatories and music programs around the U.S., including Tisch School of The Arts (TSOA), New York University; The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), NYC; Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA; St. Mary’s College, Moraga, CA.

Vocal assessments and short-term consultations are also available for vocal issues/problems, audition and prep work, recording projects, special performances, working professionals.

Testimonials

“Sandra Marlowe is an amazing artist and teacher who brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to any project she undertakes. We have had the great fortune to collaborate with her as our Musical Director for two musicals for the Gavilan College Theatre Arts Program. In both Evita & Cabaret, she was able to get amazing voices out of our student performers, many of whom were new to musicals or singing in general. Her infinite patience, grace and incredible skill guided our productions to heights I would have never thought possible at the beginning of the rehearsal process.” — John Lawton Haehl, Ph.D, Director, Gavilan College Theatre Arts

“Sandra’s heartbreaking musicality, infectious performance energy, and overall “shimmer” make her a striking performer . . . and all that wisdom and knowledge she gladly hands down to her lucky students.” – Dennis Beasley, Artistic Associate Downstairs Cabaret Theatre, NYC; Educator/Director, Gavilan College, Gilroy, CA

“Working with Ms. Marlowe has given me so much confidence . . . she gave me the tools I needed to more fully incorporate voice into my performances, but also challenged me as an artist and performer.” – Javier L. Hurtado, Actor/Educ. Prog. Coordinator for BRAVA!, Oakland, CA

“I have trained with many voice teachers over the years, but Sandra is the first to have a technique that pushed my voice to the next level . . . “ – Gemma Barozzi, Singer/Actress/ Owner of Ever After Entertainment, San Francisco, CA

“I looked forward to each session we had.  It being my first time ever singing in front of anyone, you made me feel super comfortable and gave me confidence.  You were definitely a blast to work with . . . “ – Isabel D., Actress/Student, University of Louisville, KY
